Many of us make the assumption that the windows, locks and doors on our properties are covered by our home insurance policy in the event of a bulgray, faulty or broken locks or wood/uPVC requiring repairs – unfortunately this is most often not the case.
Unless you have an extended emergency homecare insurance package, it is likely you will have to foot the bill for having lost your keys, replacing a broken lock or repairing a faulty window handle etc.
In addition, if the situation arises when you need to claim on your home insurance, insurers will scrutinise the quality of the locks and security measures your property has in place and will use this to form a basis on whether or not your claim may be successful.
As an example, in the event of a bulglary whereby a burglar gains entry to your property through a front/rear door, unless that lock has a British Standard kitemark your home insurance claim may be instantly rejected. We have witnessed this happen many times leaving homeowners and business owners distraught and heavily out of pocket.
